The Toronto Indie Arts Market evolved out of the frustration many independent artisans have at finding a place to sell their creations.
Whether it’s art, self-published books and magazines, music, or crafts, many people hit a wall when it comes time to sell their work. With few regular outlets for independent artisans, we felt there was a need for a regular marketplace where Toronto-area creative types could sell their wares, and where customers looking to support local designers, artists, writers, musicians and performers could find cool stuff.
Each market will include a featured charity which will receive partial admission proceeds.
The Toronto Indie Arts Market is run by Sheryl Kirby and Greg Clow. Sheryl and Greg have a background in Toronto’s creative underground culture; over the past twenty years they have worked together on zines, a boutique record label, the food and drink website TasteTO, and a concert and event production company that included two weekend-long music festivals. Currently, Sheryl runs the micro-imprint Stained Pages Press, and Greg is the publisher of Canadian Beer News, where he also hosts a popular monthly dining series.
